Angada kills demons

Ravana felt insulted. It had to war. If the gates would be closed, the enemy would burn the city, if the gates were open they would kill the brave. It was better to die in battle.
Ravana called Kumbha and Nikumbha, sons of Kumbhakarna. He asked to go to battle and avenge their father's death.
Huge in size, the two brothers set out for battle. They went and approached the western gate.
A fierce battle started among the vanaras and the demons.
A rakshasa called Vrajadanta hit Angada with his mace. Angada was stunned for sometime. Regaining his composure. Angada picked up a rock and hot the demon on his head. Vrajadanta was dead.

A demon called Sankampana then attacked Angada with arrows, Angada jumped on his chariot. With kicks and boxes, Angada broke the chariot. The demon jumped off the chariot with his sword in his hand. Angada jumped behind the demon.   Angada snatched the sword and shield from the demon. Using that sword, Angada cut off the head of the demon.

Seeing this, Shanitaksha, a demon, attacked Angada. Prajangha and Yupaksha, two rakshahsas joined Shanitaksha. Srimainda and Dwivida, two vanaras came and joined Angada. The three vanaras started fighting the three demons.

With a huge tree, Angada smashed the hand of Prajangha. Angada with a huge blow, smashed the head of the demon.  Yupaksha attacked Angada with a sword. Angada grabbed Yupaksha with all his might. Shanitaksha, in the meanwhile attacked Dwividha with his iron mace. Momentarily stunned, the vanara recovered. Yupoaksha released himself and attacked along with Shanitaksha. Dwividha, using this nails, scratched Shanitaksha badly and then killed him.

Yupaksha and Srimainda had a fierce fight. Srimainda grabbed Yupaksha and with tight squeeze broke his chest. Yupasha died.

Narantaka dies

Seeing Ravana cry, one of his sons, Trishira, came to him. He said - Father, you wanted to be immortal, but Brahma did not give you that boon. Uncle Vibhishana became immortal because of his qualities. He gave you good advise, but you did not listen. You also fought with your elder brother, Kubera. Everyone is scared of Vasuki, you made sure he is scared of you. You won over the Gods. Today is my chance. I will win the war for you.

Devantak, Narantak and Atikaya, brave heroes, wanted to go to battle along with Trishira. Getting permission from Ravana, the four heros decked themselves up for battle and stepped out.

These four sons of Ravana were accompanied by Mahodara and the brave Mahapasha.

Their mothers were crying. Sons - Please do not go and leave me alone. When a brave like Kumbhakarna fell, what will you do, Go and take Rama's Sita to him. That will save Lanka and your lives. If Ravana is after your lives if you commit such an act, then go and take refuge in Kailasha. Kubera will protect you.

The rakshahshas said You are living only because you are our mothers. We are not afraid of mere humans. Why should we take refuge in the house of that brother, from whom our father got the Pushpaka chariot. If we fall in battle, we will leave for the heavens in wonderful chariots. We will kill Rama and Lakshmana like Garuda kills snakes.

Saying this, the six heroes with their armies got ready.

Vanaras attacked with stones, rocks and trees and these were cut off by the demons. Some rakshasas fell from the blows received from the vanaras.

Narantaka started shooting arrows everywhere. Vanaras began falling and soon the soil was red, from the blood of the vanaras.

Sugirva asked Angada to intervene. Angada went and attacked Narantaka. Narantaka lifted a spear and hurled that towards Angada. No one knew what would happen. Angada's chest was like thunder, and the spear when it struck his chest, broke into two. Angada then killed the horses drawing the chariot of Narantaka.

Narantaka then dealt a mighty blow at Angada. Angada did not fall. Jumping, he placed his knee on the chest of Narantaka, and killed him.

Angada in the court of Ravana

Angada saw all the great warriors of Ravana coming in and taking their places in the court. He saw all except Kumbhakarna there, who was in his sleep, oblivious of the trouble looming over Lanka.
Ravana was saying - A bunch of vanaras and Rama have come to attack Lanka. They do not know my power.
The others assembled said they were not afraid. If Kumbhakarna woke up, all the vanaras would get eaten up by him. Indrajit would kill the vanaras using his arrows, so the vanaras were not be feared. They were a bit wary of the vanara who had come night and burned the city dow, and had seen Sita in the Ashoka garden.
Angada then landed in the middle of all and increased his size, till his head touched the ceiling. The guards fled seeing Angada. Angada saw Ravana sitting on a tall throne on a high pedestal. He coiled his tail to form a tall tower and sat on that. All were in awe, seeing Angada and his size.
Seeing Angada, Ravana, an expert in illusion, formed multiple Ravanas in the court. Every where he looked, he could see Ravana. He looked closely and saw Indrajit sitting quietly. Angada asked him - Tell me truly, who is your father? Who is that for whom you bound Indra? Your mother I heard is a pious woman, then how can she have so many husbands. Who is that Ravana who was defeated by Kartavirya Arjuna? Who is that Ravana who suffered defeat in the hands of Mandhata? Who is that Ravana whose sister was captured by the rakshasa Madhu? Who is that Ravana who was bound by my father?

Hearing all this, Ravana unable to control himself, lifted the illusion. Ravana said - You have invited your death by coming here.  Who are you, and who has sent you?

Angada said - You may remember Vali and Sugriva from Kishkindhya. There Vali had bound you by his tail. I am the son of that Vali, and my name is Angada. You do not know Rama, but you brought Sita over.
Rama has come over, and you sit inside and do not come out. No one will left in your dynasty once Rama has finished with you.

Ravana said - What does Rama think me to be, that he comes with a army of monkeys. I understand the capability of Rama and that is why he was sent out from his home. He roamed in the forest with his woman. Rama is not capable of defeating Ravana. Tell Rama to break the bridge he built. Bring Vibhishana to me. Let him beg for forgiveness. Bring me the vanara who burnt my Lanka. I will punish him well and then release him. Let Rama also beg for forgiveness.

Angada said - It is our wish also to leave and break the bridge. And Hanumana has been driven away from the army.

Ravana laughed hearing this. He wanted to know why Hanumana had been driven away. Angada said - My Uncle, Sugriva, had told Hanumana to get the head of Kumbhakarna and a captive Ravana, when he returned. Sugriva wanted to kill him for failing, but Rama said he should be spared. Thus, he was driven away.

The rakshashas looked at Angada. Angada said - Know for sure Ravana, that your death is in the hands of Rama. Enjoy all your luxuries while you can. Find out from your wives, who will come along with you when you die. You are a learned person and spoiled your own life by your misconduct and misdeeds. Rama is Vishnu and Sita is Lakshmi and you did not realize that . You had forcibly brought over women of Devas, that did not satisfy you and you got Sita over, thus inviting your death. You have no alternative other than to take refuge of Rama.

Ravana said - Shame on you, who born in a royal home, has to serve a human. You serve him, who killed your father.
Angada said - Forget me . Your mother was a rakshashi, your father a brahman. Why are you a rakshasha if you were born of a brahman. Rambha treated you like a father in law, and you raped her. Throw away your pride. You have faced defeat in the hands of many. Be ready to die now.

Ravana said - Rules say a messenger should not be killed and that is why I suffer you.

Angada said You have gone mad, so die. Vibhishana left you in the right time. Look at Surpanakha's face and know what Rama can do. Rama killed that Vali who easily defeated you. I can easily take care of you, but is Rama's job.

Ravana asked - Tell me how many warriors do you have in the army, who are as cunning and strong as the one who burnt my city?

Angada said - There are many brave warriors in our army. If you think Hanumana was bravest and the strongest , try me. Listen to me - Rama willll kill you and Lakshmana will kill Atikaya and Indrajit.

The rakshashas tried to catch hold of Angada then. Angada jumped up along with rakshashas holding him, and jumping down, dashed their heads on the ground, killing them. Angada started thinking what should he take back for Rama. Hanumana gave to Rama the jewel from Sita. What should I give?

He saw the gem studded crown of Ravana. He jumped on Ravana. The two started fighting. Throwing Ravana aside, Angada snatched his crown,. Ravana fell flat on his face, on the ground. Rakshasas tried to catch him, but Angada was quick. He took a big jump, and landed back in the middle of the vanara army.

Angada told Rama what had happened and gave the crown to Rama. Rama was pleased and hugged Angada.

Angada and Hanumana talk

The vanaras asked Angada what to do next. In the tunnel and in the land they had looked for Sita and had not found her.
Angada said a month was over and that would mean death for them. If they went back, they would die. And after killing Vali, Angada said, he was the next target. He said he was the made crown prince by Rama and not by Sugriva. If Sugriva saw Angada as a thorn, he would look for an excuse to kill him.
Among the vanaras was one called Tarak. He said to Angada - Let us go back to nether world which we just came from. There are wonderful fruit trees. We will live there in peace.
Listening to all this saddened Hanumana. He then said - We all came with an objective and now there is talk going on about deviating from that.  Angada, you should not talk to the vanaras in that manner and deviate them from their path. You will not escape death, if you plan to run away now. The vanaras here have their families at home. Will they all leave their families and go with you? You are single, nit yet married. If you run away, you will always be looked down upon as a traitor. What I suggest is that we continue our search. If we are totally unsuccessful, then we will report the same to Sugriva. Sugriva will not unjustly punish us.
Angada said I do not support this. My father was killed unjustly. Vali could have achieved this easily. Why did Rama not talk to Vali? Vali had defeated Ravana once before. This was the Ravana that stole Sita, and because of that I see my death.
Hanumana said - I will tell you what I know. Taking the name of Rama absolves all sins.
Angada said - Rama and Sugriva are not good. If you go back, tell my mother what I said.

The other vanaras decided to follow Angada. They sat down with him, to fast unto death.

Vali dies

In her palace, Tara heard that Vali had fallen in battle. Taking Vali, Tara rushed out, not bothering to dress properly. On the way, she saw Vali's ministers walking away. She asked them where they were going. They said : O Queen. You begged Vali not to go and fight. He did not listen to your wise words. Vali was killed, shot by Rama. Go back, and make Angada the king.

Tara said, If Angada wants to be king, I will let him go. All I want now, is to go and join my husband.

Tara reached the spot where Vali was lying. She saw Rama and Lakshmana sitting on the ground, near Vali, their bows and arrows lying on the ground. All were quiet, sitting with their heads bent down. You defeated great kings and today you lie defeated by Rama. I tried stopping you but you did not listen. You are the light of my life. With you leaving, what does Tara have to live for? Sugriva did this for the kingdom.

Turning to Rama, Tara said, You are from the dynasty of Raghu. Why did you kill my husband, while hiding behind trees. If you had killed him in face to face, I would not have been so hurt. All say you are kind. You have shown your kindness in a weird way. You the grief of losing a spouse, so why did you give me the same grief? My husband did not curse you, but I will curse you, and my curse will come true. Know for sure, that you will rescue Sita and bring her back to Ayodhya. Sita will not stay for ever with you, and she will leave you and go to the heavens. The way you made my cry, so will Sita make you cry when she leaves. You will loose your own life, after Sita goes. My curse will come true. The way you killed my husband; in another life the same person will kill you, hiding behind bushes.

Vali the said slowly, Tara, I have said may harsh words to Rama. I die because of the sin committed by Ravana, when he abducted Sita.
Turning to Sugriva, Vali said, I have had been cruel to you. Take over the kingdom. Take care of Angada, who grew up in luxuries. Be a father to Angada in my absence. I hand over Angada to you. Rama's arrow burns me. My life will soon leave. I had a garland from Indra. I give that to you, Sugriva.
Vali then said to Angada, Take care of Sugriva. Be heroic and let Sugriva be proud of your achievements like I was. Do not do anything that will bring shame.

Saying this, Vali died.
