Rama crosses Ganga

Rama wanted to know how Indra got relief from the curse. Vishwamitra said, as per Gautama's curse, Indra was cursed to have a thousand yonis on his body. He decided to perform an ashwamedha yagna, which cured him. The yonis turned to eyes.

Thus talking Rama, Lakshmana and Vishwamitra reached the banks of Ganga. The boatman there heard them talking about bringing a stone to life with the touch of a foot, and he fled with his boat.

Vishwamitra started calling him, and when he refused to come the sage threatened to burn him. The boatman slowly approached them.

The sage asked the boatman to help them cross the river. The boatman said he had a worn and old boat which would not be able to take them, and he said he would help them cross by taking them on his shoulders. He also said he was hearing one of them had brought a stone to life and if that person brought his boat to life, his source of livelihood would be destroyed.

When he was assured that nothing would happen, the boatman washed the feet of all and helped them cross the river on his boat.

Having crossed the river, Rama looked at the boat which turned into gold. Leaving the boatman, they resumed their journey towards Mithila.

Seeing Rama coming, the sages around came and greeted him and Lakshmana.
