While Dashratha was living happily in Ayodhya, a sacrifice was happening in the land of Mithila. The sages were performing the sacrifice but they were unable to complete it.
As soon as the sages would start, Maricha would splatter blood over the fire.
Worried Janaka sat with the sages to find out a way. Among them was the sage Vishwamitra. He decided to go and fetch Rama. Rama would kill the demons and the sacrifices would complete.
He reached Ayodhya. Hearing of his arrival , Dashratha was worried. Vishwamitra spelt trouble for his dynasty. He remembered what had happened to Harishchandra.
Keeping his fears aside, the king greeted the sage and asked for the reason of his visit.
Vishwamitra said, the sages are trying to perform sacrifices but the Rakshasas are spoiling that. Give me Rama and Lakshmana, so they can go and kill the demons.
The king was stunned. He thought of the curse of the blind sage and his heart started beating faster. He told the sage , ask for my life, I will readily give you that, please do not ask for Rama. I cannot live without seeing Rama for a moment and will not live if he goes.
